The market includes gas engine generator sets, diesel generator sets, hydroelectric generator sets, and wind turbine generator sets.
The market offers gas engine generator sets, diesel generator sets, hydroelectric generator sets, and wind power generator sets. Different types of generator sets vary in performance, usage scope, and market conditions, so they should be selected reasonably. Gas generator sets are generally used for continuous load; they use natural gas as fuel and have advantages such as a wide output power range, high reliability in starting and operation, good power quality, small size and light weight, simple maintenance, low-frequency noise, low cost, and environmental friendliness. However, natural gas must be sourced locally, and since natural gas resources are not widely distributed in China, the supply range is limited. Additionally, there are safety risks for less professional users. Diesel generator sets are usually used as emergency or backup power sources; they use diesel fuel, which is a non-renewable resource and relatively expensive. However, diesel is easier to purchase and store than natural gas, has large single-unit capacity, wide usage, high thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption, quick start-up, and mature maintenance technology. Therefore, diesel generator sets are the most commonly selected in the market. Hydroelectric generator sets are generally used in various hydropower stations and feature low cost, small size, light weight, simple structure, reliable operation, and convenient installation and use. They are suitable for rural households in mountainous areas with abundant water resources to solve power needs for lighting, televisions, and other uses. Wind power generator sets use natural energy, are pollution-free, and are renewable energy sources. They are much better than diesel generators in this regard but are not as suitable as diesel generators for emergency use. Wind power generators cannot be considered backup power sources but can be used long-term. They are generally suitable for areas far from the power grid, such as pastoral areas, mountainous regions, and islands with abundant wind resources. However, both cost and technology still lag significantly behind traditional thermal and hydroelectric power, and national policy support is needed. Therefore, in engineering projects, diesel generator sets are generally preferred as power generation equipment.
